Jaipur, March 23 -- At least nine people were arrested for allegedly extorting money from locals allegedly in disguise of transgender people in Jaipur, police said on Sunday. DCP of Jaipur (West), Hanuman Prasad, said, "The matter came to the fore after receiving several complaints from local drivers in Chitrakoot area that some people, allegedly belonging to the transgender community, had been extorting large amounts from them and also used to harass them if they refuse to pay it." Following the development, police formed a team and conducted a search operation in the area and traced nine such people on Saturday. "After the arrest, it was found that they are nine young men who used to disguise as transgender people to gain sympathy and extort money. They also did not have any kinnar card provided by the state government," said DCP Prasad. He said that the accused are part of a syndicate. "Their leader was Mahi Saini who was associated to some gangsters. His job was to hire these young men, mostly migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, train them, and send to extort money. Each of them had a target to earn Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 daily." The officer also said that primary investigation revealed that many members of the syndicate are also active in several tourist-heavy areas such as Jaisalmer, Udaipur, and Jodhpur. "We have informed local police about the matter. A medical examination of the accused was conducted that revealed their fake identity. We are interrogating them. Further probe is underway," said Prasad. A case of extortion under relevant BNS sections has been registered against Mahi Saini from UP's Mathura, Sooraj Aroda aka Sanjana and Yogendra Singh aka Chhoti from UP's Hathras, Ramavatar from UP's Chandauli, Shailendra and Manu Kori from MP's Gwalior, Prateek Jatav from MP's Morena, Bhagchand Khateek aka Vrinda from Ajmer, and Ved Prakash aka Chal from Bikaner, police said....
