Mother, boy drown in well, kin allege foul play
Barmer/Sirohi, May 19 -- A 28-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son died allegedly after falling into a 120-foot-deep well, police said on Monday, adding that their bodies were recovered after a nearly 16-hour-long rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the deceased woman's brother alleged that his sister had earlier called him and said that her in-laws were threatening to kill her.
SHO Phaglu Ram said, "On Sunday evening, we received information that a woman, Alka (28), and her elder son, Prateek (4), had fallen into a well in Varman village. Police immediately reached the spot and launched a search operation. Both bodies were later recovered from the well and kept in the mortuary of Revdar Hospital."
Deceased family members told media that, the victim had contacted her brother shortly before the incident and expressed fear for her life. She reportedly told him that her husband and in-laws were harassing her and that they might kill her. Following the recovery of the bodies, the brother lodged a complaint with police, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against the accused.
The woman's family has alleged that she was subjected to continuous harassment after marriage. They have accused her husband and in-laws of mental and physical torture.
Police said the woman and her son were found inside the deep well, and rescue teams worked throughout the night to retrieve the bodies. Due to the depth and difficult conditions, the operation took several hours.
The bodies were sent for postautopsy to determine the exact cause of death, police said, adding that they are examining all angles, including whether they fell accidentally, died by suicide, or were pushed into the well.
Police said that they have received the deceased woman's brother's complaint and statements of family members are being recorded....
