Jaipur, July 26 -- The southwest monsoon has regained momentum in Rajasthan, bringing heavy rainfall to the western, southern and southwestern parts of the state over the past two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for most districts on Sunday, while Barmer, Jalore and Sirohi have been placed under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Mount Abu in Sirohi district recorded the state's highest rainfall over the past 48 hours, receiving 203 mm. According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, a low-pressure area over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining regions has persisted, while the associated cyclonic circulation has intensified. The weather office said the cyclonic circulation over southeastern Rajasthan has strengthened into a low-pressure area, keeping the monsoon trough south of its normal position. As a result, monsoon activity is expected to remain active over parts of the Udaipur and Jodhpur divisions for the next two to three days. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely at several places, with isolated locations expected to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Moderate to heavy showers are also likely in parts of the Bikaner, Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions during this period. Despite the revival, the state continues to face an overall rainfall deficit. Against the normal rainfall of 265.99 mm till July 25, Rajasthan has received 245.18 mm, leaving it with an 8% deficit. During the corresponding period last year, the state had received 408.30 mm, marking a nearly 40% decline this year. Only five districts - Balotra, Beawar, Bikaner, Didwana-Kuchaman and Salumbar - have recorded excess rainfall so far this season. Twenty districts, including Ajmer, Baran, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Churu, Deeg, Dholpur, Ganganagar, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Kotputli-Behror, Nagaur, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sikar and Tonk, have received normal rainfall. Meanwhile, 15 districts - Alwar, Banswara, Bundi, Dausa, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Kota, Pali, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi and Udaipur - remain rain-deficient.
