Man who set himself afire, dies
Bikaner, March 15 -- A 35-year-old man who had allegedly set himself on fire outside the superintendent of police's (SP) office in Bikaner died during treatment in Jaipur, police said on Saturday.
Sadar police station SHO Surendra Pachar said the man died while undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital in Jaipur. After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to family members, he said.
The deceased, a resident of Khajuwala area, had sustained 80% burn injuries after allegedly pouring petrol on himself and setting himself ablaze near the SP's office on Friday evening.
Police personnel and locals rushed and doused the flames before shifting him to PBM Hospital's Trauma Centre. Due to the severity of the burn injuries, he was later referred to Jaipur.
According to police, the deceased had come to the SP office to submit a complaint alleging harassment by a woman. However, he had earlier given a written note saying he did not wish to pursue the complaint against the same woman, police said. Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said, adding forensic teams examined the spot. Police said most of the documents the man was carrying were burnt in the fire, though one partially burnt paper, believed to be his complaint, was recovered.
Meanwhile, in a transfer list released on Friday night, the state government transferred SP Kavendra Singh Sagar and appointed Mridul Kachhawa as the new SP in Bikaner....
