man kills woman who thwarted rape attempt on minor, arrested
Jaipur, Sept. 5 -- A 25-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening for allegedly killing a 38-year-old woman allegedly after she caught him attempting rape on a minor in a village in Ajmer, police said on Friday, adding that the minor was also detained in connection with the incident, but the reason is yet to be ascertained.
The accused was identified as Shankarlal Bairwa.
The deceased, identified as Soni Devi, was found strangled inside a well near Borada Road in Chhotalamba village early on Thursday.
Investigators said the body also bore head injuries in addition to marks around the neck. The post-mortem examination was held at Government Yagyanarayan Hospital in Kishangarh.
A case of murder under relevant BNS sections was registered based on a complaint by the husband of the deceased.
Forensic teams collected evidence and a special teams led by Arain SHO Rajmal was formed to conduct enquiries among locals, one of whom, Bairwa, reportedly struck investigators as allegedly behaving suspiciously. They added that he also bore scratch marks on his neck.
When he failed to provide a satisfactory alibi, police questioned him on the basis of technical and other evidence, after which he allegedly confessed to the crime. He reportedly testified that Soni Devi caught him with the minor in a sorghum field near a cattle enclosure at around 1pm on Wednesday.
He allegedly strangled Soni Devi to death with her dupatta and dumped it in the well after dark. Police said the accused allegedly tried to mislead the family by joining the search....
