Man Hung Upside Down, Beaten; 11 held in Udaipur
Udaipur, July 16 -- A man was reportedly hung upside down from a tree, assaulted, and fined Rs.11,000 by members of his community for allegedly violating a community-imposed liquor ban in Udaipur district, police said, adding, that 11 people have been detained and booked in the case.
Sayra SHO Kanaram Sirvi said the incident took place on May 12. According to police, Kamol resident Chunnaram Gameti allegedly assaulted his father while under the influence of alcohol. The following day, members of the local Bhil community convened a meeting and accused him of violating the community's prohibition rules.
Police said the accused then tied one of Chunnaram's legs, hung him upside down from a tree, and assaulted him. A video of the incident recently surfaced on social media.
Deputy SP Gopal Chandel said, "After the video showing the man being hung upside down from a tree, assaulted, and fined came to light, immediate instructions were issued to register a case. Eleven accused have been detained, and a detailed investigation is underway."...
