Jaipur, Sept. 20 -- Lok Bhavan has expressed displeasure over alleged irregularities in the PhD admission process at Rajasthan University, the state's largest university, and sought a report from the registrar within three days, officials aware of the matter said on Saturday. They said the controversy is regarding four students who were granted admission on August 18, only to have their admissions abruptly cancelled on September 9. The students have been identified as Shivangi Singh from Home Science, Dilkhush Prajapati and Pooja from Economics, and Muskan from Psychology. The affected students have demanded that the entire PhD admission process be put on hold and a high-level committee constituted to investigate the alleged irregularities. Postdoctoral research fellow Dr Sajjan Saini said concerns over the PhD admission process had been raised for a long time. He said action should be taken against those responsible for creating the controversy. Meanwhile, Governor Haribhau Bagde has curtailed the powers of vice-chancellor Alpana Kateja, barring her from appointing principals, heads of departments and directors. In a letter issued on Thursday, the Governor's Secretary said vice-chancellors of state-funded universities were instructed not to take any policy decisions during the final three months of their tenure. "The Governor and Chancellor has learned that you are considering appointments to the posts of principal, director, head of department and other key administrative positions. You are, therefore, directed not to take any policy decision. Such decisions should be taken after the appointment of a new vice-chancellor," the letter stated.
