Jaipur, Aug. 5 -- A day after clashes between police and protesters during the 'Savarna Ekta Yatra' against the proposed UGC Bill, Shri Rashtriya Karni Sena chief Mahipal Singh Makrana on Tuesday demanded Rs.1 crore compensation and a government job for the family of a protester who allegedly died after being injured during the agitation. Addressing a press conference in Jaipur, Makrana demanded a judicial inquiry into the role of the Jaipur district administration and police, and warned of intensifying the protest, including laying siege to the chief minister's residence, if the demands were not met. The yatra, which began in Bikaner and reached Jaipur on Monday after a 24-day journey, saw clashes at several points. Police used water cannons and later resorted to lathi-charge after protesters attempted to breach barricades. Makrana alleged that Devraj Singh of Palada village in Didwana-Kuchaman district suffered injuries during the police action and later died while undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital.
