Jaipur firecracker unit blast: Main accused sent to 4-day police remand
Jaipur, June 18 -- The main accused in the deadly illegal firecracker factory blast in Jaipur's Khoh-Nagorian area, which claimed eight lives, was on Wednesday sent to four days of police remand by a local court, police said.
Since the June 9 incident, police had been conducting raids to trace and arrest the factory operator and owner. Factory building owner Qayyum Khan was arrested by Jaipur Police on Tuesday night after remaining absconding for more than a week. He was produced before court on Wednesday, which granted police custody until June 20 for further interrogation, police said.
Investigating officers said Khan will be questioned extensively to identify others involved in the illegal business and to uncover the financial and operational network behind the factory.
Khoh-Nagorian SHO Prakashram Vishnoi said preliminary investigations revealed that Khan was engaged in manufacturing firecrackers without obtaining the required licences and permissions. "Khan frequently changed locations after the blast and hid in areas including Shastri Nagar, Jhotwara, Tonk, Ghaziabad and other parts of Uttar Pradesh to evade arrest. Police eventually apprehended him when he tried to return to Jaipur after reportedly running short of money," he said.
Two other alleged key figures in the operation, Firoz and Yakub, remain on the run, police said, adding that police teams have been dispatched....
