Investigation launched against IPS officer over extortion allegations
Jaipur, April 6 -- Bhilwara police has set up a special team and launched a probe against an IPS officer, Madhav Upadhyay, after allegations of his involvement in extortion from an illegal garnet supply racket, officials said on Sunday.
SP Dharmendra Yadav, said, "Two of our constables on Saturday reported that a few people got engaged in a brawl after one group went to extort money from another group who were allegedly extracting garnet illegally."
A local police team was immediately sent to the spot from where they arrested four people, police said. The four accused have been identified as Ajay Panchal, Nand Singh, Narayan Gurjar, and Kalu Gurjar, all residents of Bhilwara.
"During the interrogation, one of the accused has claimed that he is a close aide of an MLA. They also said that the district additional SP Madhav Upadhyay sent them. We are questioning them while a team was also formed to investigate his involvement," said Yadav.
Officials said the accused used to collect Rs.5-6 lakh monthly from illegal garnet mafias upon Upadhyay 's instruction.
Reacting to the allegations, Madhav Upadhyay said, "I am being framed unfairly. I will not make comment till the inquiry gets over."...
