Jaipur, Sept. 22 -- The BJP secured the president's post in 201 of the 301 municipal bodies. State party president Madan Rathore described this result on Monday as an endorsement of the Bhajan Lal Sharma government's two and a half years in office. "The results reflect the blessings of the people of Rajasthan and their approval of the work done by Bhajan Lal Sharma," Rathore said at a press conference in Jaipur. He claimed that young voters backed chief minister's approach to governance and direct delivery of services. Rathore said the party had achieved widespread success in the civic elections, securing strong public support in municipal corporations, councils and municipalities. "Of the state's 10 municipal corporations, results for seven were declared on Monday, and the BJP secured a strong majority in six. The party's mayors were elected in Alwar, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Pali, Udaipur and Bharatpur," he said. Rathore said voters had expressed confidence in the BJP's manifesto. He added that the party's elected representatives would work to fulfil its promises and serve the public. BJP workers would also campaign vigorously in the upcoming panchayat elections, he said. Rathore said the Congress failed to secure even 100 civic boards. "People have expressed confidence in our manifesto. We will fulfil its promises," he said, adding that the BJP expected to win the forthcoming panchayat elections by a larger margin. Asked about the BJP's defeat in Pali, his home district, Rathore acknowledged that the party fallen short of its goal of winning all 309 municipal bodies. "We will review where we fell short," he said. He claimed that some newly elected councillors had contacted the BJP on their own and expressed a desire to join it. Rathore rejected the Opposition's allegation that the government misused police and administration to secure civic board presidencies. "There is no question of misusing the system. Councillors vote by secret ballot and exercise their own discretion," he said. He accused the Congress of questioning the judgment of Independent councillors and disrespecting the mandate. He also referred to former CM Ashok Gehlot's alliances with BSP legislators and Independents, alleging that the Congress had relied on their support when it suited the party. Responding to Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasara's earlier remark asking "Who is Madan Rathore?", the BJP leader said, "I cannot compare myself with Dotasara. He is a big person; I am a simple worker." "He can secure government jobs for members of his family and claim OBC benefits despite being in the creamy layer. When Dotasara was education minister, teachers told then chief minister Ashok Gehlot, in Dotasara's presence, that corruption was rampant in the department," Rathore alleged. "He can quarrel with his own leader, Ashok Gehlot. He was expelled from the assembly for indiscipline, leaving Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully to apologise on his behalf. That is why I never compare myself with Dotasara," Rathore added....
