Jaipur, June 13 -- A 24-year-old inmate lodged in Jaipur Central Jail was seriously injured after being attacked by another prisoner with a sharp-edged weapon inside the prison premises, officials said on Friday, adding that the victim's family has alleged that the assault was carried out to prevent him from exposing alleged illegal activities taking place inside the jail. According to officials, Chetan Singh alias Rishiraj, has been serving a sentence for robbery and murder since 2020. He was pursuing an ITI course while in prison. During one of the classes, he was allegedly attacked by another inmate and was immediately shifted to Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital for treatment. Chetan's mother, Antar Bhawar, alleged that her son was attacked at the behest of Deputy Jailor Sumer Singh Gurjar. She claimed that Chetan had become aware of the alleged supply of gutkha, beedis, mobile phones and narcotic substances inside the prison and was being pressured to remain silent. A case has been registered at Lal Kothi police station on the complaint of the jail administration. Police have launched an investigation and are gathering details regarding the circumstances....
