Jaipur, Aug. 4 -- After days of widespread rainfall, the southwest monsoon is expected to weaken across Rajasthan from Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a decline in rain activity over most parts of the state, particularly western Rajasthan. According to the Meteorological Centre, the low-pressure area over Rajasthan has weakened into a cyclonic circulation and is currently centred over northeastern Rajasthan. The monsoon trough is passing through Bikaner, Delhi and Lucknow. During the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several parts of the state, while isolated places in Ajmer, Pali, Beawar, Bhilwara, Jodhpur, Nagaur and Rajsamand received heavy to very heavy rainfall. Jaitaran in Pali district recorded the highest rainfall at 161 mm. The IMD said light to moderate rain is likely to continue over northern and eastern Rajasthan on August 4 and 5, while rainfall activity is expected to decrease over the rest of the state. Meanwhile, continuous rainfall triggered a tragic incident in Jodhpur on Monday morning, where an eight-year-old girl was killed after the roof of her house collapsed while the family was asleep.
