IMD issues heatwave alert till Wed as Barmer sizzles at 40.4deg Celsius
Jaipur, March 10 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave alert on Monday till Wednesday after the temperature crossed 40deg Celsius in Barmer. In most parts of Rajasthan, the maximum temperature ranged between 36 and 40degCelsius, about 5-10deg Celsius above normal, according to the IMD. The maximum of 40.4degC in Barmer was followed by 39.5degC in Pilani, 39.2degC in Vanasthali, 39.1degC in Churu and 39degC in Jaisalmer. IMD data showed at least 16 other cities exceeding 36degC.
On Sunday, Barmer and Pilani topped the charts at 40.2degC and 40degC, respectively, trailed by Chittorgarh at 39degC, Jaisalmer at 39.2degC, Bikaner at 39.4degC and Churu at 39.1degC. "Most parts of Rajasthan recorded a temperature between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius which is 5 to 10 degrees more than the normal average. The weather was also majorly dry in the last 48 hours. There is a probability for heatwave from Monday to Wednesday. A fresh western disturbance might be expected on 12 March at several parts of north-western India and therefore there will be relief from the heatwave. People are advised to take necessary measures in the afternoon to save themselves from the heat," an IMD official said....
