Jaipur, Aug. 13 -- Heavy rain lashed several parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday, with Jaipur, Chittorgarh, Salumber, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara and Sawai Madhopur among the districts receiving intense showers. The rain led to waterlogging in urban areas, overflowing dams, damage to crops and disruption of traffic at several places. Salumber's Semari recorded five inches of rain in five hours, while Jhadol in Udaipur received around 4.25 inches during the same period. Continuous rainfall caused Chittorgarh's Devaliya Dam to overflow. In Rawatbhata, a protective wall of the Khokhi Dam broke, damaging crops spread over around 300 bighas. Water also accumulated outside the collector's residence in Salumber. Several roads in Banswara were inundated, with water flowing across them like a river, while shops in Chauth Ka Barwara in Sawai Madhopur were inundated. In Kota, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway tunnel was closed around 1 pm after water accumulated to nearly one foot in a section of the tunnel. Traffic approaching the tunnel from the Mumbai side was diverted to the Kota-Jhalawar NH-52. The diversion resulted in a jam stretching around four kilometres on either side near Dara ki Naal. Meanwhile, the administration in Dholpur remained on alert amid a rise in the Chambal river following the release of around 415,000 cusecs of water from the Kali Sindh river. The Chambal river's water level reached around 133 metres, prompting authorities to warn people against entering its basin. Officials said preparations had been completed to deal with any further rise in the water level and rescue teams had been placed on alert. Dholpur collector Srinidhi BT said the river was still flowing below the danger level and that the administration was closely monitoring its water level. In Baran, continued rainfall in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh created heavy-rain conditions in the Shahabad subdivision. A river near Chaurakhadi village was overflowing, with villagers continuing to cross the waterway at their own risk. Heavy rain also lashed Bharatpur on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging in several parts of the city. The district administration was working to drain water from submerged colonies, but fresh rainfall worsened it. Weather experts said the monsoon is likely to weaken across Rajasthan from August 14.
