Jaipur, July 23 -- The southwest monsoon regained strength across Rajasthan on Wednesday, bringing widespread rainfall to several districts, including Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Jaisalmer and Kotputli-Behror, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast active monsoon conditions across most parts of the state over the next five days. Udaipur witnessed the heaviest spell of the season, with nearly an hour of intense rainfall transforming weather conditions in the lake city. Weather experts described it as the strongest downpour of the current monsoon season. In Ajmer, heavy rain lasting about an hour left roads submerged. In Tonk's Deoli town, rainwater entered the government hospital premises. Rain also lashed Kotputli-Behror district, where waterlogging was reported on service lanes along the Jaipur-Delhi National Highway. At the hill station of Mount Abu, intermittent showers and dense morning fog brought down visibility. The impact of the rainfall was also visible across the Hadoti region, where the Parwan, Kalisindh and several other rivers swelled following heavy showers over the past 24 hours. In Jhalawar's Manoharthana, the Parwan River rose by nearly three feet, submerging a small bridge and part of a nearby temple. The rising water level in the Kalisindh River, fuelled by heavy rainfall in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, prompted authorities to open one gate of the Kalisindh Dam by 0.10 metres, releasing 426 cusecs of water as a precautionary measure. In Kota, a 23-year-old man died after being struck by lightning late on Tuesday night during stormy weather. Weather conditions changed suddenly in Sri Ganganagar on Wednesday afternoon, with heavy rain lashing the district headquarters and adjoining areas. Waterlogging was reported from several parts of the city, including Sadulshahar. The IMD said a cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan and adjoining areas, along with the monsoon trough passing through its normal position, is expected to keep the monsoon active across the state. According to the forecast, eastern and southeastern Rajasthan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over the next four to five days.
