Jaipur/Bharatpur/Jhalawar, Aug. 12 -- Heavy rainfall continued ti lash the state on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department forecast warning of another 2-day spell of heavy rain in southeast and eastern Rajasthan from Wednesday. In Jaipur, heavy rain in the afternoon caused waterlogging on key roads. A bus stand outside JK Lon Hospital collapsed after water accumulated on its roof, said officials. In Jhalawar district, around 300 mm of rain was logged in Sunel up to early on Tuesday, causing severe waterlogging and disrupted connectivity to around 10 villages. Schools in the district remained closed. The gates of the Kali Sindh and Chhapi dams were opened to release excess water following a sharp rise in water levels. Authorities have kept rescue teams on alert and advised residents to stay away from waterlogged areas and swollen rivers. Rising water levels may also affect the Chambal and Parvati river systems downstream. In Kota, 19 of the 27 gates of the Nonera dam were opened to release water. Baran also witnessed a rise in the level of the Parvati river, with several anicuts filled with water. The Hadoti region comprising Kota, Baran, Bundi and Jhalawar received intense rainfall on Monday, with some locations recording up to 12 inches of rain. The heavy showers have caused extensive damage to Kharif crops in rural areas, with farmers seeking compensation. Administrative teams have begun surveys to assess crop losses. Udaipur division also received heavy rainfall on Monday, with some areas recording up to six inches.
