Jaipur/Bharatpur, Sept. 5 -- Heavy rain lashed several parts of Rajasthan on Friday as a fresh weather system over central India intensified monsoon activity, bringing relief from heat and humidity but also triggering waterlogging, rising river levels and dam releases in parts of eastern and southeastern Rajasthan. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy-rain alert for 24 districts. Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Jhalawar, Jaipur, Bharatpur and several other districts received intermittent rain since morning. The weather department said the current spell could continue until September 6, with heavy rain likely at isolated places in southeastern and eastern Rajasthan on September 4 and 5. In Jhalawar, 282 mm of rain was recorded in the past 24 hours, with showers continuing intermittently through Friday afternoon. Rising water levels prompted the opening of five dam gates. Four gates of Chhapi Dam were opened by four metres, releasing water at a rate of 10,870 cusecs per second, while one gate of the Kali Sindh Dam was opened by 1.5 metres, releasing 4,926 cusecs per second. In Sawai Madhopur, several parts of the city witnessed waterlogging after repeated showers. In the Ranthambore forest, seasonal waterfalls, including the one near Amreshwar Mahadev Temple, were flowing strongly. A lightning strike claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy in Dumariya village under Rudawal police station area of Bharatpur district on Friday afternoon. His elder brother, Sunil Gurjar, 18, and Keshardevi, 60, suffered burn injuries. The three had gone out to graze cattle and were sitting under a banyan tree to take shelter from the rain when lightning struck the tree. The injured were initially taken to Bayana hospital and later referred to Bharatpur in serious condition. The Sirsa river has risen sharply and is flowing strongly in the Shahabad area, with water levels increasing in streams and other water bodies. The department has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in districts of the Bharatpur and Kota divisions on September 5, with very heavy rain possible at one or two places....
