Jaipur, July 6 -- Rajasthan continued to witness widespread monsoon activity on Sunday, with heavy rain lashing several districts and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting an intensified wet spell over the next five days following the formation of a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and Odisha coast. Adverse weather in Delhi also disrupted air traffic, forcing 11 flights to be diverted to Jaipur within an hour, officials said. According to the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, the well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast has strengthened into a depression. The system is expected to move west-northwest across northern Odisha and northern Chhattisgarh over the next 24 hours, leading to enhanced monsoon activity across Rajasthan. The IMD has predicted active monsoon conditions in eastern Rajasthan for the next five to six days. Most parts of the region are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, while isolated places could witness heavy showers. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify further in south-eastern and eastern Rajasthan from July 6. On Sunday, moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was reported from parts of the Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Jaipur divisions. Heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated locations in the Kota and Udaipur divisions. The weather department has forecast widespread rainfall across the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions over the next five to seven days. Between July 6 and July 9, isolated places in south-eastern Rajasthan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. In western Rajasthan, including the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected over the coming days, while isolated heavy rainfall has been forecast for July 7 and 8.
