Bharatpur/Dholpur, Sept. 7 -- Heavy rains over the past three days have disrupted normal life in Dholpur, with several residential colonies and rural areas facing severe waterlogging and roads being cut off as water levels in dams, rivers and streams rise. The situation worsened after four gates of the Parvati Dam were opened to release excess water. Several villages in the Baseri, Bari, Saipau and Dholpur subdivisions have been cut off from the district headquarters, forcing residents to take alternative routes. The Parvati Dam has a full reservoir level of 223.41 metres, while its water level reached 223.05 metres. With continued inflow from the Dang region and other parts of the catchment, the district administration has issued a red alert for villages along riverbanks. More gates may be opened if required to regulate the water level. A sheet of water around three feet deep is flowing over the Bari-Saipau road, prompting police personnel to be deployed to prevent people from travelling through the affected stretch. Connectivity to several villages has been disrupted as water continues to flow over roads and low-lying routes. Heavy rains have also caused the Ramsagar Dam to overflow, while a culvert between Nisore ka Pura and Dhalu ka Adda in Ninokhar gram panchayat collapsed following the rainfall. Waterlogging has affected both urban and rural areas, disrupting transportation and making daily activities difficult for residents. The administration and police have been monitoring vulnerable locations, particularly areas close to rivers and water bodies. In another rain-related incident, a boundary wall of Raj Niwas Palace, associated with former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, collapsed following the heavy rains. No casualty was reported. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said the Well Marked Low Pressure Area (WML) has weakened into a Low Pressure Area (LOW) and is currently located over southeast Uttar Pradesh. The department said rainfall activity is likely to decrease over most parts of Rajasthan from September 7.
