Heavy rain causes waterlogging, damages public infra across Raj
Jaipur, July 7 -- The southwest monsoon intensified across the state on Monday, bringing heavy rainfall that disrupted daily life and damaged infrastructure in several districts.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall in the eastern and southeastern part of the state.
Cities across the state recorded waterlogging and damage to roads on Monday. In Jaipur, heavy overnight rain caused roads to cave in at multiple locations, including Mansarovar's Shipra Path and Gopalpura Bypass near Ganga-Jamuna Petrol Pump, leaving craters estimated to be 8 to 10 feet deep.
In Jodhpur, an hour-long spell of intense rain on Monday afternoon inundated roads. At Bhairuji Circle, a city bus carrying around 10 passengers became stranded after its driver attempted to cross a flooded low-level bridge despite the strong water current. Locals rushed to the spot and helped push the bus to safety. Several areas, including Pratap Nagar, remained submerged, with parked vehicles partially underwater.
Heavy rainfall also created flood-like conditions in Sikar, where over 29 millimetres of rain was recorded within a few hours.
Officials said water accumulated up to one to three feet in major localities, disrupting traffic and forcing motorcyclists to wade through flooded streets.
According to rainfall data, Sawai Madhopur and several other districts received more than two inches of rain over the past 24 hours.
The IMD said monsoon activity is currently strongest over the Udaipur, Kota and Bharatpur divisions, where widespread rainfall was also recorded on Sunday. Meteorologists expect the active spell to continue for the next five to six days due to a depression that has moved from the Bay of Bengal towards southern Jharkhand and northern Odisha....
