JODHPUR, May 1 -- The Rajasthan high court has stayed the appointment of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Purushottam Sharma as transport commissioner even as he continues to serve as managing director of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC). The order was passed by justice Anand Sharma on Wednesday while hearing a petition filed by the All India Tourist Permit Bus Owners Association. The court has restrained Sharma from working as Transport Commissioner until further orders and issued notice to him. The petition challenges a State government order dated November 21, 2025, under which Sharma, who is heading RSRTC, was also given additional charge of Transport Commissioner. The petitioner argued that holding both posts at the same time goes against Section 68(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, which restricts persons having a financial interest in transport undertakings from holding positions linked to transport regulatory authorities. The State opposed the plea, saying the Transport Commissioner is part of a broader system and not the sole decision-making authority. Taking note of the arguments, the bench observed the "matter requires consideration" and granted interim relief. The court ordered that the operation of the November 21, 2025 order, insofar as it relates to Purushottam Sharma, shall remain stayed, and he "is hereby restrained from working as Transport Commissioner till further orders." The case will next be heard on May 18....
