hc seeks govt reply on plea to sub-categorise quotas for s.ts
Jodhpur/Jaipur, Sept. 20 -- The Rajasthan high court has sought the state government's response to a Public Interest Litigation seeking sub-categorisation of the Scheduled Tribes (ST) reservation shares to ensure greater representation for the Bheel community.
A division bench of justices Inderjeet Singh and Justice Sandeep Taneja issued notice to the state government after hearing the plea filed by Shankarlal Dahiya and others through advocate Manoj Kumar Chaudhary. Additional Advocate General Kapil Prakash Mathur accepted the notice on behalf of the state. The matter will come up for hearing after four weeks.
The plea sought a review of the existing ST reservation policy. It seeks a 9% special reservation for the Bheel community within the existing 12% ST quota in Rajasthan.
The petitioners have alleged that the Bheel community remains inadequately represented in government employment, educational institutions and business activities.
They have also sought a study based on social, educational and economic data to assess the relative position of communities included in the Scheduled Tribes list....
