Jaipur, May 19 -- Governor Haribhau Bagde on Monday said a nation progresses only through education and stressed the need to make education practical and accessible for every child. The governor was addressing a function organised to mark the 75th year of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, where he, along with assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, unveiled the new emblem of the Rajasthan Assembly and inaugurated name plaques for the assembly's 13 gates as part of the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. Calling the assembly a "sacred institution of democracy", Bagde said the Rajasthan Assembly has a glorious legacy. He noted that although the Assembly formally came into existence in 1952, the roots of representative governance in the state go back to 1913, when Maharaja Ganga Singh had established a representative council in the princely state era. Bagde praised the emblem, saying it reflected the spirit and identity of Rajasthan's people. Referring to the inclusion of the state tree Khejri, the assembly building, camel and the Great Indian Bustard in it, he said the symbols represented Rajasthan's resilience, cultural heritage and ability to celebrate life despite harsh geographical conditions.
