Govt plans well-equipped colonies for families displaced from forests
Jaipur, June 23 -- The Rajasthan government plans to develop fully equipped townships for families displaced from forest areas by leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma announced on Monday.
Addressing at a CSR Conclave on forest and wildlife conservation in Sawai Madhopur, Sharma said the initiative aims to provide better infrastructure and civic amenities at rehabilitation sites, making relocation easier for affected families and improving their quality of life.
He said that while the Forest Department allocates land to families displaced due to wildlife conservation and forest protection projects, many rehabilitation colonies lack basic facilities such as drinking water, electricity, roads, schools and colleges. As a result, many families are reluctant to move.
To address this challenge, the minister appealed to industries to utilize CSR funds for developing these colonies on the lines of private-sector townships. He said the government and the Forest Department would continue to provide financial assistance to displaced families, while CSR funding could be used to create quality infrastructure. "The objective is to ensure that families displaced from forest areas do not face hardships. By developing well-equipped townships, we can make rehabilitation more effective and humane," Sharma said....
