Jaipur, May 28 -- Rajasthan governor Haribhau Bagde on Wednesday urged law students to always place national and social interests at the forefront while upholding constitutional values. The Governor was addressing the third convocation ceremony of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University. He described the convocation as a celebration of the values and knowledge acquired by students and referred to the tradition of "Deekshant" mentioned in the Taittiriya Upanishad, where gurus imparted final lessons to students after completion of education. Remembering BR Ambedkar, the Governor cited his 1938 statement in the Bombay Assembly where Ambedkar had said that people should first and foremost consider themselves Indians. Bagde said legal education should also follow the same principle - that national identity remain supreme above caste, class or community. Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that Dr. Ambedkar was not only a legal expert but also a distinguished economist, psychologist, writer and multidisciplinary scholar Deputy chief minister and Higher Education Minister Prem Chand Bairwa said that legal and judicial education would play the most important role in achieving a developed India.
