gehlot slams bjp over fall in govt school strength, rise in dropouts
Jaipur, July 10 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday alleging that the state's public education system has deteriorated significantly over the past two years, citing a rise in school dropouts and declining enrolment in government schools.
In a post on X, Gehlot claimed that more than 840,000 students had dropped out of school during the BJP government's two-year tenure, calling the trend "deeply worrying."
He also said that, for the first time in Rajasthan's history, enrolment in private schools had surpassed that in government schools, describing it as clear evidence of declining public confidence in the state's government education system.
"It is ironic that while the number of teachers increased from 7.8 lakh to over 7.9 lakh during this period, government schools still lost more than 9.3 lakh students because of mismanagement," Gehlot said.
Addressing chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Gehlot asked, "Who is responsible for jeopardising the future of Rajasthan's children?"
Responding to Gehlot's remarks, BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma said Gehlot need not worry, as the BJP government led by CM Bhajan Lal Sharma is fully focused on strengthening the state's education system. He also alleged that the previous Congress government neglected students in tribal areas....
