Jaipur, Oct. 5 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday alleged that Election Commission of India had been "caught red-handed" over irregularities in electoral rolls, while senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot accused chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of sidelining other two election commissioners and alleged that 13 crore names had been deleted during Special Intensive Revision. Gehlot said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had raised the issue of "vote theft" nearly a year ago, but people initially found it difficult to believe. "Now they have been caught red-handed," Gehlot said, referring to objections reportedly raised by election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. "How did Gyanesh Kumar carry out this process? His two fellow commissioners warned him 14 times in writing and even wrote to the Cabinet Secretary. What bigger proof can there be?" Gehlot said. Pilot alleged the ECI's decision-making process had been compromised during SIR. "What Gyanesh Kumar did was sideline other two election commissioners and start entire process on his own," he alleged. He questioned the handling of electoral registration officers who have the statutory authority to add or delete voter names. "Thirteen crore names were deleted across the country. Normally, after every SIR, the number of voters increases as population grows. This is the first time names are being deleted on such a scale. First there was demonetisation, now they are doing 'vote-bandi," Pilot said. ECI, however, disputed interpretation of the 13-crore figure. It said the figure refers to names removed from draft rolls after being categorised as absent, shifted, dead or duplicate, and does not mean 13 crore eligible voters were wrongly excluded. BJP state secretary Ekta Agarwal hit back at Congress leaders, saying the party was making baseless allegations against a constitutional institution after failing to accept electoral process. She added Congress was trying to create confusion among voters by using terms such as "vote theft" and "vote-bandi"....
