Jaipur, Aug. 10 -- Foreign tourist visits to Rajasthan have grown by 336% over the past six years, the ministry of tourism told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that credited both state-led promotional efforts and central government schemes for the rebound. Responding to a question from Congress MP Neeraj Dangi on trends in tourist arrivals to the state, tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said data compiled from the Rajasthan government showed steady growth in both domestic and foreign visitor numbers in recent years. According to figures shared by the state government, foreign tourist visits rose from 0.446 million in 2020 to 1.945 million in 2025. Domestic tourist visits climbed even more sharply over the same period, from 15.117 million to 252.503 million- over fifteen-fold increase. The ministry said it does not maintain revenue figures for individual tourist sites such as Amer Fort and Albert Hall Museum in Jaipur, noting that such data rests with the state government. It added that, "generally," higher tourist footfall translates into greater hotel bookings and tourism revenue. On steps being taken to sustain the momentum, the ministry pointed to ongoing collaboration with the Rajasthan government on infrastructure development and marketing, backed by central sector schemes including Swadesh Darshan, Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, and the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD). The minister described destination development as "a continuous process" led primarily by state authorities, with the Centre's role focused on extending financial assistance. Rajasthan remains one of India's most visited states for both domestic and international tourism, anchored by heritage sites in Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.
