Jaipur, June 25 -- Following fatal fire incidents at coaching centres in Lucknow and Patna, authorities in Rajasthan launched a crackdown on institutes operating without adequate safety measures, sealing six coaching centres in Alwar and two in Kota, while issuing notices to dozens of establishments found lacking mandatory fire safety clearances and emergency infrastructure. In Alwar, the municipal corporation and urban improvement trust on Wednesday sealed six coaching institutes and intensified action against centres operating without fire safety clearances. Officials said notices had already been served to 45 coaching institutes found lacking mandatory approvals and safety infrastructure. The action comes amid growing concerns over coaching centres functioning from residential buildings, basements and congested localities, raising serious questions about student safety in the event of a fire or other emergency. Municipal corporation revenue officer Nisha Lakhani said action was being taken against institutes lacking fire NOCs, proper entry and exit arrangements, and other prescribed safety standards. She said a survey conducted in 2024 had identified several violations and notices were issued, but many operators neither implemented corrective measures nor applied for registration. Fire officer Amit Meena said only five major coaching institutes in Alwar currently possess valid fire NOCs, while nearly 70 coaching centres and libraries are operating without such clearance. Institutions found lacking fire safety systems, emergency exits and other mandatory arrangements had been served notices earlier but failed to comply, he added. A similar drive was launched in Kota, the country's largest coaching hub, where the Fire Department conducted surprise inspections in major coaching areas.
