earned Rs.1,380 cr from liquor surcharges in 2 years: Govt
Jaipur, Jan. 30 -- The Rajasthan government received Rs.1,380.70 crore from excise surcharges on liquor sales over the past two financial years, the state Assembly was informed on Thursday.
In a written reply to an unstarred question by Congress MLA Rafiq Khan during the 16th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly's fifth session, the finance (excise) department stated that a 20% surcharge is levied on sales of foreign liquor, Indian-made foreign liquor, country liquor and other categories, as per a government notification dated June 22, 2018.
Revenue from the surcharge totalled Rs.631.04 crore in 2023-24 and Rs.749.66 crore in 2024-25.
Replying to another question, the government clarified that no amount has been received by the department specifically as a surcharge for de-addiction activities.
On cow protection, the department stated that during 2023-24, Rs.631.04 crore was received from excise surcharge, while Rs.1,122.86 crore was disbursed to gaushalas. In 2024-25, collections rose to Rs.749.66 crore, with assistance of Rs.1,216.28 crore provided to gaushalas....
