Don't back BJP 'misdeeds': Cong warns state officials
Jaipur, Oct. 12 -- Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra on Sunday warned government officials and employees against allegedly supporting the BJP's "misdeeds", saying the party was preparing lists of those responsible and would hold them accountable if it returned to power in the state in 2028.
Dotasra said the Congress would no longer follow a policy of "forgive and forget" and that those accused of irregularities and excesses against people would not be spared.
"Lists of those who supported the BJP's misdeeds are being prepared by Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and by us in Rajasthan. The Congress will form the government in Rajasthan in 2028, and the INDIA bloc will form the government at the Centre in 2029. After that, each person will be held accountable," he said.
He claimed that the state was less than two years away from the next assembly elections and that the model code of conduct would come into force even before that. Congress workers, he added, were compiling lists of officials and others allegedly involved in wrongdoing.
Dotasra also claimed that some IAS and IPS officers had contacted the party to clarify that they had not supported the BJP's alleged wrongdoing and had asked the Congress leadership to keep this in mind.
The PCC chief welcomed the reported decision of Director General of Police to order a vigilance inquiry into role of officials and employees during the recent urban local body elections.
He said the Congress had submitted a memorandum to the DGP seeking an investigation into alleged irregularities during the polls. "An inquiry is welcome, but that is a separate matter. We will not spare those who strangled democracy. They will have to go behind bars," Dotasra said, alleging that those involved in the purported theft of votes through chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should also face action.
Dotasra added Congress had completed its preparations, appointing district in-charges and assembly constituency coordinators and constituting political affairs committees in all districts. A campaign committee comprising senior state leaders has also been formed, he said.
Candidates would be selected through consensus, while senior leaders would campaign in districts according to their availability, he added. "Let BJP resort to as much hooliganism as it wants; people are ready to teach it a lesson. BJP will be wiped out in panchayat elections," he said.
The BJP hit back at Dotasra over his warning, saying such statements reflected the opposition party's frustration.
State BJP secretary Ekta Agarwal said government officials were expected to work according to the Constitution and law, not under the threat of political retribution. It questioned the Congress's attempt to portray administrative and electoral processes as politically motivated without establishing evidence to support its allegations....
