Bharatpur, Aug. 30 -- A Lok Adalat in Bharatpur has directed doctors and insurance companies to pay Rs.23,36,774 as compensation to a woman who was allegedly misdiagnosed with cancer and underwent repeated chemotherapy before later being diagnosed with tuberculosis. The order, issued on August 24, concerned the treatment provided to Laxmi Sharma, a resident of Pushp Vatika Colony in Bharatpur, at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Jaipur. Sharma visited the hospital in October 2020 after complaining of abdominal pain and discomfort. Based on her test reports, doctors diagnosed her with cancer and began chemotherapy. However, her condition did not improve despite the treatment. In January 2023, her family took her to Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai for further examination. Tests conducted there revealed that she was suffering from tuberculosis and not cancer. After examining the case, the Lok Adalat directed the doctors and insurers to jointly pay her Rs.23.36 lakh in compensation....
