Jaipur, July 9 -- The head of the department (HOD) of forensic medicine at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College, was found dead at his residence in Jaipur on Wednesday morning in a suspected case of suicide, police said. The incident took place in Agrasen Nagar under the Jhotwara police station limits. According to preliminary information, the doctor's son had left home to drop his sister at the airport, while other family members had gone to attend a wedding, leaving the doctor alone at the house. SHO of Jhotwara Police Station, Rajendra Singh, told HT, "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. However, we are investigating the matter from all angles. The exact circumstances will become clearer after the postmortem report." When the son returned home, he found his father dead, police said, adding that the family immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was later taken to the emergency department of SMS Hospital and shifted to the mortuary for a postmortem examination, police said. On receiving information about the incident, several senior doctors, along with administrative officials from SMS Medical hospital, reached the mortuary. Following the incident, Jhotwara police registered a case and launched an investigation. A forensic team inspected the scene and collected evidence from the room. A police officer told HT that several medical prescription slips and pharmacy receipts were found in the room, indicating that the doctor may have been undergoing treatment and taking medication for depression. At present, investigators are treating the case as a suspected suicide.
