Crackdown on 'mule accounts', 103 arrested
bharatpur/ajmer, May 2 -- At least 103 people were arrested for allegedly providing their bank account details to cyber fraudsters as part of a campaign against mule accounts in Deeg district, police said on Friday.
Deeg superintendent of police Sharan Gopinath Kamble said that the "Mule Hunter" campaign started on April 1 and went on till April 30 against those who allegedly supported cyber fraudsters.
A social cyber cell team was formed to identify mule account holders who provided their bank accounts, ATM cards, bank passbooks to cyber fraudsters to get commission from them.
34 complaints were registered against 103 mule account holders under charges of cyber crime, police said.
158 complaints were registered through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) against cyber fraudsters for allegedly cheating people of Rs.4.80 crore.
108 android mobile phones, 158 mobile SIM cards, 20 ATM cards, 18 bank passbooks, 9 cheque books, a Thar jeep and Rs.2.32 lakh were recovered from their possession, police said.
Two sellers were also booked for providing SIM cards for cyber fraudsters, police added.
During the campaign, 1074 SIM cards and 1,056 IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) were blocked by the police. According to police, mobiles which were looted or stolen were used by the cyber fraudsters with fake SIM cards to cheat people.
Meanwhile, two people were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in mule bank accounts used for cyber fraud in Ajmer, police said.
The accused allegedly opened bank accounts on rent, traded USDT coins and US dollars illegally, and facilitated online scams for commission. Investigation revealed 16 cyber complaints involving nearly Rs.17 lakh transactions. Police recovered nine ATM cards, passbooks, and a mobile phone during the operation conducted under a special campaign by Rajasthan Police....
