Congress infighting a 'jalebi race': Rathore
Jaipur, Oct. 6 -- Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore on Monday described the differences among Congress leaders Tikaram Jully, Ashok Gehlot, Govind Singh Dotasara and Sachin Pilot as a "jalebi race", accusing the opposition party of lacking unified leadership ahead of the panchayat elections.
"Jalebi race has been going on among Jully, Gehlot, Dotasara and Pilot for a long time. In Congress, every leader is playing his own tune," Rathore said at a press conference.
Taking a dig at Dotasara's confidence over the upcoming panchayat elections, Rathore said the Congress state president was making statements to overcome the embarrassment caused by the party's performance in the recent civic polls.
"If Dotasara accepts the mandate, his shop will be empty today itself," Rathore said, alleging that the Congress was leaderless and lacked a unified approach.
Rathore also rejected Congress allegations of misuse of government machinery during the civic elections. Referring to Dotasara's allegations, he said, "If we had misused power, he himself could not have won the Laxmangarh seat by one vote in the civic elections."
He further accused the previous Ashok Gehlot government of electoral malpractice. "Vote theft was done by the Gehlot government.
They even swallowed the BSP's elephant," Rathore said, adding that the BJP respected democracy and democratic institutions.
The BJP state president's remarks came as the party stepped up preparations for its October 7 programme to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years as a head of government.
Rathore said October 7 holds special significance in Modi's public life as he took oath as Gujarat chief minister for the first time on October 7, 2001. On October 7, 2026, he will complete 25 years in public service as a head of government, he said.
To mark the occasion, the BJP will organise a "Seva Jyoti evam Sankalp" programme at every district headquarters in Rajasthan.
Party workers from every booth will interact with people before reaching their respective district headquarters, while a similar programme will be held in Jaipur's Sanganer area.
Workers and the public will also join a live programme in which Modi will express his gratitude to people, Rathore said.
Swarnim Chaturvedi, general secretary and media chairperson of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), hit back, saying, "The people rejected the BJP in the civic elections. Its lead has shrunk from 15% to less than 1%, despite the misuse of the police and administration."
"The misuse was so blatant that the High Court had to intervene. The government should apologise, and a fair inquiry should be conducted. Why are elections being held in phases, and why have four zila parishads been left out?" he told HT,...
