Congress alleges graft in animal husbandry dept, govt hits back
Jaipur, March 7 -- Allegations of irregularities and corruption in the state animal husbandry department sparked a sharp debate in the House on Friday as senior Congress leader Govind Singh Dotasra accused officials of extortion and irregular transfers, while animal husbandry minister Joraram Kumawat rejected the charges and reiterated that the government follows a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Raising the issue, Dotasra alleged that employees were transferred to border districts under the pretext of an operation conducted during India-Pakistan tensions, referred to as "Operation Sindoor." He claimed the list of employees was prepared arbitrarily by a joint director who was posted in Sikar at the time, and alleged that some employees were asked to pay money.
Dotasra said several employees challenged the transfer orders in the Rajasthan High Court and many obtained relief. According to him, orders have been issued in favour of around 89 employees, but the department has not fully implemented them.
Responding to the allegations, Kumawat said the transfers were made due to administrative requirements as several posts of veterinary officers and staff were vacant in border districts such as Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Jaisalmer and Barmer. He said 39 veterinary doctors and 93 other personnel were transferred to address the shortage.
The minister also said the joint director concerned had been caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and was suspended on June 6, 2025, following which departmental action was initiated. He assured the House that court orders would be respected and implemented.
Another controversy erupted over alleged irregularities in the distribution of carpets to schools in the Degana area. Ajay Singh, MLA from Degana, accused officials of misleading the government and claimed carpets worth more than Rs.5 lakh remain unaccounted for.
Responding to the allegations, education minister Madan Dilawar admitted discrepancies in records and said the issue dates back to the previous Congress government.
Ajay Singh alleged that while 399 carpets were claimed to have been supplied to schools from the MLA fund during the 2022-23 financial year, the ground reality was different and many schools had not received them. In the Bherunda block, he claimed that only 104 carpets were distributed against the 171 shown in official records.
Dilawar said carpets worth around Rs.35 lakh had been purchased and that the procurement initially recommended by the then MLA was later changed from carpet strips to floor mats. According to records, 288 mats reached schools, while the whereabouts of 171 remain unclear.
He assured the House that a detailed investigation would be conducted....
