Jaipur, Sept. 18 -- Repolling necessitated by EVM glitches has completed the final electoral arithmetic in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations, with Congress making a clean sweep of all four Jaipur wards that went to repoll, while BJP retained the larger overall tally in all three corporations. In Jaipur, Congress won all four wards - 9, 18, 25 and 34 - where fresh polling was held after technical problems in EVMs during counting on September 14. The results increased the party's tally from 53 to 57 in the 150-member Jaipur Municipal Corporation. BJP has 78 councillors and independents 15. Congress candidates Kailashi in Ward 9, Vandita in Ward 18, Rekha Devi in Ward 25 and Suresh Yadav in Ward 34 won the repolled seats. The four wards had remained undecided after EVMs at five booths developed technical glitches during counting, preventing the votes stored in the machines from being counted. The Election Commission subsequently ordered fresh polling, which was held on Wednesday. The votes were counted on Thursday, completing the results for all 150 wards. In Jodhpur, BJP won the final undecided Ward 50, with its candidate Hemaram Chaudhary defeating Congress's Yuvraj by 83 votes. Chaudhary secured 1,725 votes against Yuvraj's 1,642. The result took BJP's final tally in the 100-member Jodhpur Municipal Corporation to 45, against 44 for Congress. Independents won 10 seats and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party one. Voting in Ward 50 had to be repeated after an EVM at booth number 338 developed a technical problem during the September 14 counting process. Fresh polling was held on Wednesday at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Sector-7, Kudi Bhagtasani Housing Board. Counting of the repolled votes was conducted on Thursday. The 45-44 split leaves both BJP and Congress short of the majority mark, making the 10 independents and one RLP councillor important to the mayoral and board-formation arithmetic. Kota also completed its results after repolling in three wards. Counting began at 8am on Thursday and results were declared within an hour. BJP won two of the three wards, while Congress secured one. Fresh polling had been ordered after EVM-related technical problems disrupted voting at three booths in three wards of Kota Municipal Corporation. Repolling was held on Wednesday, followed by counting on Thursday. In nearby Suket municipality, Congress won Ward 4 after fresh polling was held following an EVM-related disruption.
