Bikaner, Sept. 3 -- Bikaner City Congress president Madan Gopal Meghwal was assaulted by disgruntled party workers during the inauguration of a Congress candidate's campaign office in Ward 50 on Wednesday, amid resentment over the distribution of tickets and election symbols. Some workers also raised slogans of "ticket thief" during the event. A video purportedly showing the incident later surfaced on social media. The confrontation came amid allegations that candidates finalised by the Pradesh Congress Committee were subsequently replaced. A section of party workers has accused Meghwal, a former IPS officer, of obtaining duplicate authorisation letters to allot party symbols to candidates of his choice. Meghwal alleged that Mohit Arora, a party worker, assaulted him after calling him aside during the programme. "Mohit Arora had been following me for the past two days. When he visited the party office on Wednesday, I welcomed him by draping a party scarf around him," Meghwal said. He said Arora arrived at the ward office inauguration with some friends on Wednesday and initially raised slogans in support of the Congress. "During the ceremony, I was called outside and offered sweets. Mohit then asked why he had not been given a ticket. I told him that many people seek party tickets, but only one person can be selected. He immediately began assaulting me," Meghwal alleged. Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasara condemned the incident and demanded action against those responsible. "The assault on Bikaner City Congress district president Madan Meghwal is extremely shameful and condemnable. Differences of opinion may exist in politics, but violence and hooliganism are completely unacceptable," Dotasara wrote on social media. He urged the police and district administration to identify and arrest the accused and initiate legal proceedings against them. The BJP, meanwhile, targeted the Congress over the incident, alleging that the assault on its Dalit district president by party workers exposed a gap between its claims of protecting Dalit dignity and its conduct towards its own leaders. "The Congress talks about respecting Dalits, but its own workers brutally assaulted a Dalit leader during a ticket dispute. Its words speak of dignity, while its actions reflect insult," the BJP said on X....
