CM pitches infra push at Viksit Bharat event
Jaipur, Oct. 8 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Wednesday highlighted a series of infrastructure and development projects in Rajasthan, including the Rs.13,000-crore Jaipur Metro Phase-II, water-link projects for eastern Rajasthan and expansion of the state's renewable energy capacity.
Sharma was speaking at the VT Road ground in Mansarovar, where he joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to a 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha' in New Delhi through videoconferencing. The programme was organised as part of the BJP's 'Seva Jyoti Yatra' to mark 25 years of Modi's public service as a head of government.
Among the major projects cited by Sharma was the Jaipur Metro Phase-II, which he said had been approved by the Centre at an estimated cost of Rs.13,000 crore. The project will have a 41-km corridor with 36 stations, he said.
The chief minister also highlighted the Rs.11,764-crore Jaipur Ring Road North project, saying it was being taken up with the Centre's support to ease traffic pressure in the state capital. He also referred to the Delhi-Mumbai, Amritsar-Jamnagar and other expressway projects as part of the expansion of Rajasthan's road network.
Water security remained a major part of Sharma's address. He said the Ram Jal Setu Link Project was being implemented to expand drinking water and irrigation facilities in eastern Rajasthan. According to him, the project would benefit the population of 17 districts, provide water for industries and create irrigation facilities for more than 400,000 hectares.
He also referred to the agreement signed for the Kishau multi-purpose project and the agreement for bringing Yamuna water to Rajasthan. The chief minister said more than 5.2 million rural households had so far been provided tap-water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission, with more than Rs.33,305 crore spent on drinking-water infrastructure.
On energy, Sharma said Rajasthan had witnessed a significant increase in power capacity and was expanding battery storage and solar generation. More than 337,000 rooftop solar systems had been installed under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, while projects with more than 5.45 GW capacity had been installed under PM-KUSUM, he said.
He also cited the Rs.42,000-crore Mahi Banswara nuclear power project, with a proposed capacity of around 2,800 MW, and the refinery at Balotra, which he said involved an investment of around Rs.80,000 crore.
Sharma said the state was also witnessing expansion in rail and air connectivity, including Vande Bharat services and 83 Amrit Bharat railway stations. The new terminal at Jodhpur airport, constructed at a cost of Rs.480 crore, has increased the airport's annual passenger handling capacity from 1.2 million to 2 million, he said.
The chief minister also highlighted welfare measures, saying more than 2.3 million eligible families had received pucca houses under the PM Awas Yojana and more than 7.5 million women from poor families had been provided LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme.
He said Rajasthan would contribute to the national goal of making India a developed country by 2047. Sharma administered a pledge on building a developed India at the event and flagged off the Seva Jyoti Yatra by lighting a torch.
