Jaipur, July 23 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Wednesday said the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project would transform urban mobility in the state capital and emerge as the city's "lifeline", while announcing that future expansion through Metro Phase-3 and Phase-4 would also be taken up in line with growing transportation needs. Launching the civil works of the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project at the Metro Depot in Sitapura, Sharma performed the groundbreaking and foundation stone-laying ceremony, inaugurated the piling work after performing rituals for the piling rig machine, and reviewed a model of the nearly 41-km-long corridor. Addressing newspersons, the Chief Minister said the expansion of Jaipur Metro had become essential to meet the city's growing transport demands. He credited the "double-engine government" under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing the project to fruition and noted that civil construction had begun within just 18 days of the Prime Minister's virtual foundation stone ceremony. He said the corridor would significantly improve connectivity across Jaipur by linking key residential, industrial and commercial areas, reducing travel time and providing an affordable public transport option. Sharma also announced that Metro Phase-3 and Phase-4 would be undertaken according to future requirements, indicating the government's long-term plan to expand Jaipur's mass rapid transit network as the city continues to grow. Following the launch, Sharma travelled in an electric bus from the Metro Depot site to Mansarovar Metro Station before taking the metro to Chhoti Chaupar. During the journey, he inspected the proposed interchange station site at Khasa Kothi from the metro cockpit and later visited the art gallery at Chhoti Chaupar station. The Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project will develop a 41-km north-south corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod with 37 stations at an estimated cost of over Rs.13,037 crore....
