Jaipur, Aug. 7 -- Third grade teachers continued their protest on Thursday, demanding a transfer policy even as the government adopted a tough stance, denying the possibility of transfers. The teachers have been sitting on protests since the past two days, demanding transfers. Representatives of the teachers held talks with education secretary Rajesh Yadav on Thursday evening and an understanding was reached on some demands. Third grade teachers are primary and upper-primary government school educators who teach classes 1 to 8. Mahaveer Sihag, convenor of the Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh (Shekhawat) said, " The government has carried out transfers of other teachers but not of third grade teachers." "Teachers have been posted away from their homes and families for many years. Some are 300-400 km away. They want to be transferred to their home districts. But the government does not want to transfer them because then schools where the teachers are currently posted will face staff shortage," he said. He demanded that the government should recruit new teachers and alleged that the government is not recruiting as it does not want to pay salaries. Meanwhile, LoP Tikaram Jully said, "BJP had in its manifesto promised a transparent transfer policy within 100 days but they went back on their promise once they came to power. Instead of talking to the teachers, government is trying to suppress their voice, which is undemocratic and unjust."htc...
