JODHPUR, May 31 -- The Jodhpur district administration in Jodhpur has initiated strict action against the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP)-Textile and its member units for allegedly discharging untreated water into the RIICO drain and the Jojari river, in compliance with recent directions by the Supreme Court, officials said on Saturday. Acting on instructions received from the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board headquarters, an FIR was registered late on Friday against the trustees and Board of Directors of the Jodhpur Pollution Control and Research Foundation, which operates the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP)-Textileover the alleged illegal discharge of untreated effluents directly into the drain and river. Officials said on Saturday that the process of filing a case before the competent court under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, has also been initiated. The local administration has also intensified monitoring and enforcement measures. A high-level meeting chaired by district collector Alok Ranjan directed all concerned departments to maintain round-the-clock surveillance and ensure strict action against defaulting units. The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board's regional office in Jodhpur has also ordered the closure of the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP)-Textile and all its member units until further orders. As part of the enforcement drive, a joint inspection team carried out surveys and inspections of several industrial units on Friday. During the inspection, two units were found operating despite closure orders issued by the Board. Their plants and machinery were sealed and closure directions were issued against them under the Water Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. Officials said one of the sealed units was found to be linked to an office-bearer of CETP-Textile.
