Jaipur, July 11 -- The state legislative assembly will kick off year-long Amrit Mahotsav celebrations on July 15 to mark the completion of 75 years of its legislative journey with a special convention of former and sitting legislators and discussions on landmark laws that shaped the state, Speaker Vasudev Devnani said on Friday. He said the inaugural event, scheduled on assembly premises, will bring together members from the First to the 16th state assemblies to discuss the evolution of parliamentary democracy, legislative traditions, the dignity of the House, digital transformation and pressing challenges. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will preside over the inaugural session as the chief guest, while Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan is scheduled to attend the concluding session. Governor Haribhau Bagde, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and others have also been invited. As part of the first event, former speakers, deputy speakers and senior legislators will deliberate on the impact of 23 landmark laws enacted by successive state assemblies. These include the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Jagir Resumption Act, 1952; the Rajasthan Zamindari and Biswedari Abolition Act, 1959; the Rajasthan Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Act, 1959; the Rajasthan Primary Education Act, 1964; the Rajasthan Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act, 1973; the Rajasthan RTI Act, 2001; and the Rajasthan Guaranteed Delivery of Public Services Act, 2011. The celebrations will also honour former speakers, deputy speakers and legislators elected to the House six or more times in recognition of their contribution to democratic institutions.
