Cases in Jodhpur are different from those in Kota, Bikaner: Minister
Jaipur, June 23 -- Amid growing concern over the health complications reported among women following caesarean deliveries in Rajasthan, health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar has said that the recent cases reported in Jodhpur are distinct from the incidents in Kota and Bikaner and should not be linked to them.
Responding to questions over the condition of women who fell ill after deliveries at Jodhpur's Paota District Hospital, Khimsar said that six of the affected women are now in stable condition. One woman has been referred to AIIMS Jodhpur due to severe diabetes and requires specialised treatment, while another is undergoing treatment for jaundice.
"The cases in Jodhpur are different in nature and should not be viewed in the same context as the incidents reported in Kota and Bikaner," the minister said. He added that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and that teams of specialist doctors are keeping a watch on the patients' health.
Khimsar said that each case is being investigated separately to determine the exact causes of the complications. The government, he added, is committed to ensuring that all affected women receive the best possible medical care while a detailed inquiry is conducted.
During the interaction, the health minister also commented on the increasing number of caesarean deliveries being performed across the state. He said there has been a noticeable rise in C-section births in recent years.
According to Khimsar, one of the factors contributing to the trend is that many young women prefer to avoid labour pain and opt for caesarean deliveries. However, he stressed that a significant number of C-section cases involve women who are referred to major hospitals from other healthcare facilities after developing complications during pregnancy or childbirth. He said that many patients reach government hospitals in critical condition after travelling long distances from smaller health centres and private facilities. Treating such high-risk cases presents a challenge for doctors, but it also reflects the confidence people have in Rajasthan's major government medical institutions.
While investigations into the incidents are ongoing, health authorities have maintained that no conclusions will be drawn until medical and laboratory reports are available....
