Jaipur, Sept. 14 -- Candidates at a Jaipur centre of the Rajasthan State Eligibility Test (SET) 2026 protested on Sunday after question papers allegedly arrived late, delaying the start of the examination. The SET began at 429 centres across the state's seven divisional headquarters, with the examination scheduled from 11 am to 2 pm. At Senior Secondary School on Banad Road in Jaipur, candidates created a ruckus alleging that the question paper set reached the centre around 11.15 am, despite the examination being scheduled to begin at 11 am. Some candidates subsequently came out of the centre and staged a protest. Police reached the spot after being informed and spoke to the candidates. Centre officials, however, said the examination was underway and that candidates were being counselled and efforts were being made to restore normalcy at the centre. Candidates were allowed to enter examination centres only until 10 am, after which the gates were closed. The SET is being conducted in Rajasthan after a gap of nearly three years, raising expectations among candidates preparing for assistant professor positions in universities and colleges across the state. A total of 1,77,901 candidates have registered for this year's examination, around 31% higher than the 1,35,323 applications received for the SET held in 2023. The examination is being conducted through OMR sheets. Jaipur has the highest concentration of candidates, with 171 examination centres catering to 78,617 registered candidates. Tight security measures were put in place at examination centres. Candidates underwent frisking and metal-detector checks, followed by biometric attendance and verification of identity documents before being allowed into the examination halls . Candidates were required to carry a coloured printout of their admit card, an original photo identity card and a passport-size photograph.
