Jaipur, Aug. 6 -- Commonwealth Games boxing gold medallist Arundhati Choudhary received a rousing welcome on her arrival at Jaipur International Airport on Wednesday after bagging the top spot in the women's 70kg boxing in Glasgow. Sports enthusiasts, supporters and well-wishers greeted the Rajasthan boxer with flower garlands and traditional drum beats to celebrate her historic achievement. Speaking to reporters at the Jaipur airport, Arundhati revealed that she had entered the final despite suffering from a high fever. "I had a fever before the final, but all I could see was the gold medal. I did not let the pain or weakness affect me. My only focus was to win gold for the country," she said. The 23-year-old defeated England's Chantelle Reid in a one-sided final to secure the gold medal, dominating the bout with an aggressive display and bringing laurels to both India and Rajasthan. Calling the victory a proud moment for the country, she said she did not want to wait another four years for the next edition of the Commonwealth Games to achieve the feat. "This medal belongs to the entire country and Rajasthan. I hope it inspires millions of girls to take up sports. If even one girl gains the confidence to pursue her dreams because of my success, I will consider that my biggest achievement," she said. Reflecting on her journey, Arundhati credited her family for their unwavering support throughout her career. "My journey from Kota to the Commonwealth Games has been incredible. My family stood by me at every step and played a major role in my success". She also said her achievement had challenged the stereotype that women are more suited to less physically demanding sports."People often believe women are inclined towards softer sports.
