BJP secures clear majority in 60 ULBs, single-largest party in 51
Jaipur, Sept. 16 -- The BJP has secured a clear majority in 60 urban local bodies, including four municipal corporations, seven municipal councils and 49 municipalities. It has emerged as the single-largest party in another 51 civic bodies but fallen short of the majority mark, making independents and defections crucial to board formation in these bodies.
The BJP and Congress have won an equal number of seats in 11 civic bodies, leaving the formation of boards dependent on independents or possible cross-party defections. In the 100-ward Jodhpur Municipal Corporation, both the BJP and Congress won 44 wards each, while 10 wards were won by independents. The two parties also finished tied in Pisangan, Anta, Kapren, Rajaldesar, Basedi, Suratgarh, Marwar Junction, Dhariyawad and Khatushyamji.
Of the 10,244 wards, results for 10,235 have been declared, with repolling scheduled in nine wards. The BJP has won 4,179 wards, 566 more than the Congress's 3,613. Independents have won 2,273 wards.
