Jaipur, Sept. 5 -- The Bharat Adiwasi Party (BAP) has fielded multiple candidates in Banswara and Dungarpur districts, which form the tribal-dominated belt of southern Rajasthan, in the civic body elections. The BAP is contesting in 63 of the 180 wards across five urban local bodies in the two districts, indicating its strategy to strengthen its presence in an area where the Congress has traditionally maintained a strong foothold. The five urban bodies include Banswara Municipal Council, Garhi Municipality, Kushalgarh Municipality, Dungarpur Municipal Council and Sagwara Municipality. The BAP has fielded candidates in 20 of the 60 wards in Banswara, 11 of 25 wards in Garhi, six of 20 wards in Kushalgarh, 12 of 40 wards in Dungarpur and 14 of 35 wards in Sagwara. Senior BAP leaders said the move follows sustained efforts to strengthen organisation in the tribal belt over the past several years.
