Ajmer, May 18 -- Nine people have been arrested for allegedly abducting and assaulting a man in Ajmer district, police said on Sunday. Superintendent of police Harshvardhan Agrawal said that the victim, Jeetu Nath, 31, from the Kalbeliya community, had left home around 9 am on Saturday for work. During this time, around 20-25 people travelling in a pickup vehicle allegedly intercepted him, assaulted him, and abducted him to Veer village. According to police, the accused again assaulted the victim at the village. He was allegedly forced to wear a garland made of shoes and a woman among the accused allegedly forced him to drink urine from a cup, police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had married a woman about five months ago after her divorce from her previous husband. However, the woman's former in-laws allegedly refused to accept the divorce as valid, claiming that the issue had not been settled in accordance with community norms. Police said they believe this dispute led to the incident. A joint police team comprising the District Special Team, Gaggal Police Station, Nasirabad Sadar Police, and Srinagar Police was immediately formed to trace the accused. Late Saturday night, police conducted raids and arrested nine accused persons and seized three vehicles used in the crime. Efforts are underway to apprehend others involved. The arrested accused have been identified as Prakash, 23, Vikram, 20, Hemraj, 24, Devilal, 40, Shayari, 65, Gaurav Nath, 21, Ravindra Nath, 25, Ramlal, 23, and Sugna Devi, 46. Police are interrogating them, while search is on for other suspects connected to the case....
